This week in class, we continued learning about the expanding suburban sprawl and how we have been affected but the surrounding environment.
Week #8 Vocabulary:
Hazardous Waste: waste that is dangerous or potentially harmful to our health or the environment; can be liquids, solids, gases, or sludges.
Superfund Program: the federal government's program to clean up the nation's uncontrolled hazardous waste sites.
Landfill: a site for the disposal of waste materials by burial and is the oldest form of waste treatment.
Radioactive Waste: wastes that contain radioactive material; usually by-products of nuclear power generation and other applications of nuclear fission or nuclear technology, such as research and medicine.
Sustainability: creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony, that permit fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations.
