Hello and welcome the homepage for Mr. Martinez' Geography class at Bear Creek High School. This week we learned all about how the class works as well as some ongoing projects and homework assessments. We learned about our 50 States and Capitals Quiz next week, our ongoing Book Projects and our first small video project regarding the 5 themes of geography, due January 27th.
Week 1 Vocabulary:
Geography: The study of where people, places,
and things are located and of the ways in which things relate to each
other.
Latitude: Imaginary lines that run east-west
around the globe; they measure the distance north-south of the equator.
Longitude: Imaginary lines that run
north-south on the globe; they measure the distance east-west on the
globe.
Equator: 0˚ latitude; located half way between
the poles. Divides the world into Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
Prime Meridian: 0˚ longitude; runs through
Greenwich, England. Divides the world into Eastern and Western
Hemispheres.
